Orca Coast Playground donates generously in the wake of economic downturn

June 4, 2009

Orca Coast Playgrounds (“Orca”) earmarks $52,500.00 CAD to donate two indoor playground structures to the Toronto YWCA Beatrice House, located at 177 Caledonia Road.  While many companies have the unfortunate task of cost cutting and laying people off during these hard economic times, Orca turns to philanthropy in hopes of easing the stress felt by those relying on the social system.  “The number of families forced to turn to social housing and related programs will rise to some of the highest levels seen in recent history.  If we can make the lives of the children involved a little happier, and to occupy them while their parents work out their situations, then that is the least we can do”, says Bill Dunbar, President, Orca Coast Playgrounds.

Orca is pleased to be working closely with Brilliant Creative, a marketing and design agency located in Oshawa, Ontario.  “I approached Bill with a philanthropy marketing idea, and I was pleasantly surprised at how he immediately jumped on board and made such a generous offer”, says Cara Stamp-Beausoleil, Brilliant Creative.  Orca made the suggestion of donating to a women’s shelter, and Brilliant Creative immediately went to work to locate a suitable recipient.

Thus the relationship between Orca Coast Playgrounds, Brilliant Creative and the YWCA Toronto is born.  “We are truly excited about working with Orca to provide two playground structures to our YWCA Beatrice House”, says Paulett Ramsey, YWCA Toronto, Manager of Philanthropy.

The equipment being supplied to the YWCA is set to be completed and ready for use by children no later than June 18th.

Orca Coast Playgrounds is at the forefront of design with their original and themed, custom commercial play systems.  They have over 15 million children pass through their various playground structures every year, and they still have the industry’s leading safety record.  Located in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Orca is a family founded business that was started to improve the quality and well being of play in the industry today.  Orca is proud to be a manufacturer of a solely North American made product.  www.orcacoastplay.com
