Playing is one of the most important activities a child can participate in as they develop. Well-known Philosophers, Sociologists, Psychologists, and Archaeologists are among those who have noted that play is as important to human happiness as love and personal achievement. Play is an enjoyable activity that can take many forms. It elevates our mood, promotes creativity, and connects us to other people in a positive way. It also promotes problem solving and social understanding. When children play they are actively engaging in a learning process that is fun and self-motivated. In order for children to flourish they need to laugh, learn, and socialize.

We have studied children for hundreds of years, but only recently have we begun to understand the benefits of play. As the environment has changed and our medical knowledge has developed so has our understanding of childhood diseases and developmental delay. Among the therapeutic modalities for children, play has exceptional benefits for regulating mood and promoting a positive mindset which can increase the bodies ability to restore its natural balance. Sometimes the best medicine is laughter.
